CHRISTIAN BORNEMANN LUDERITZ 2015 EXPERIENCE

Posted at

The Lüderitz Speed Challenge was another rewarding experience for me. I had a lot of fun there and left with the German Outright Speed Record of 50.20 kts. over the 500-m. course.

I set also a new German 10-sec. GPS Speed Record with 51.23 kts. that moved me into 11th place in the all-time 500-m. speed ranking.

I used the 2015 Speedblade 5.6 qm for my record run, it was the perfect size for the conditions at that day. I sailed also with the new 2016 Speedblades in 5.4 & 5.9 qm which worked perfectly as well.

The record run was very special: I had a really good start with a nice gust and, as I sailed around the corner, the acceleration was insane.

I nearly was sucked out of the straps but luckily could stand the pressure.

After that it was a very smooth run, no big lulls on the track.

Just before the finish, another big gust hit me and for a moment I wasn’t quite sure if I could handle it and if I’d be able to stop.

But I didn’t sheet out and slowing down in the chop was really scary.

I looked at my GPS knowing that was a near-perfect run …

It was an awesome feeling, I’m so happy about it and it took a moment to realize that I had both set a new German Record and broken the 50-kt. barrier – a dream came true!

For me as an amateur – but very passionate [speed] windsurfer (I’m a dentist with my own clinic) it was quite important that the Loftsails were easy to rig and handle.

The sails performed outstandingly and felt very stable and comfortable.

Due to the strong construction no damage occurred either.
